In denial...

That my summer is over! Ugh. Can't I just stroll along wearing breezy spaghetti strap dresses in vibrant colors with graphic patterns???

I wish...

I had the cash flow to go off the grid.

Dreamin' of the sea

The smell of salty ocean spray and coconut-scented lotion, sand up the bum and in the toes, reading a juicy summer novel with stacks of the latest trash mags beside (because it's the only acceptable time to buy them), listening to Citizen Cope or some other uber-chill music with a good beat... No kids in sight on this beach, unless they're my cousins (the only acceptable kids) who'd like me to assist them with an award-winning sandcastle. Wawa hoagies are in the cooler along with my favorite easy summer-time concoction – a Michael Phelps (Jeremiah Weed & water on ice :)
Love the muted/hazy colors of these seaside interpretations.

A girl can dream...

Santorini

Craving a piece of the pie...

Or at least a slice of outdoor leisure space to call my own.
Since I don't plan on giving up city life anytime soon, this is as big as I'm dreaming... a lil patio/balcony sanctuary to flip through mags, immerse myself in juicy books, sketch, write, concept genius ideas, nap, pet my imaginary dog, play gin rummy, plant a container garden, inhale city scents, share coffee/wine with friends, ponder deep questions like: Which Charlie Brown character am I?, look out into the starless/infinite sky.

Today's the day kids!

He's back... He's here... Well, in my heart he never left. Freddy Krueger! My boogeyman of choice. ACTUALLY, he is the first boogeyman I came to know. Now this might look bad on the 'Rents, but A Nightmare on Elm Street is my first recollection of a movie watching experience. I was 5.

Today I tried to describe to Mouth and May how excited I am... that I couldn't even watch the previews by myself–I'd have to change the channel. That he has tormented me for years and I love it! Mouth says, "Geez, how are you going to sleep tonight?" I say (without hesitation), "vodka."

Yes/yes, Freddy grew more stand-up comedian in his later years, but it didn't/doesn't matter to me. Once you have this idea/image of terror from an early age–it's embedded. The music, the house, the glove, those spooky lil girls jumping rope! I have goosebumps just typing about it. Even the Fresh Prince's A Nightmare on My Street makes me a bit anxious. I'm not even linking that cuz if you don't know what I'm talking about... shame!

So the point of all this IS that I'm pumped!!!

Too late... Turn off alarm.

A lil Puerto Ricany... even in my dreams.

Last night I had a dream that one of my ex's and a girlfriend of mine were coming back from the beach. We pull into a gas station, so we can fill-up. While waiting for the ex to fill the gas tank, I spot a car filled with some ghetto-fabulous big girls across from us. One of them starts calling me out for no reason and ripping me to shreds-verbally. What do I do? I throw a piece of pineapple at her from the car (seriously, a piece of pineapple). She gets pissed and the scene switches to a courtroom. She is pressing charges against me for throwing the piece of pineapple at her. I am on trial, but my WHOLE family is there to support me (literally spilling over the pews onto the stand). While trying to defend myself to the judge, I keep getting interrupted by multiple family members who keep insisting I am innocent and that this trial is ridiculous. They get reprimanded several times, but that still does not quite them.

A little Puerto Ricany sound bite

I couldn't have written it better if I was conscious.

Last night I had the best dream and it went in 2 parts.

First part: Johnny Depp (in his Winona Ryder phase) and I are making a movie. A movie where we need to shoot this makeout scene over&over again... Yummm! Too bad the scene never progresses pass PG-13 and then we are running for our lives. We stop at a gas station and we get arrested, but then a van pulls up with our friends who are there to "bail" us out.

Second part: I'm at this sick house in Puerto Rico on the beach. The house has this multi-level deck at the back with slides and multi-level pools. I'm with my family, specifically my lil cousins who are running around playing, eating yummy fried foods and sucking on piraguas. One of my cousins is painting and I think that's a great idea, so I sit down to paint the sunset and there is a crazy warm/moody light in the air.

For the record: I would take this man at any phase of his life.

la la land: the tidal wave

I walk into a 2story building at night that overlooks a busy street. The lower level of the building is a retail store carrying mostly fabric. I notice 2 girls that I know in line as I pass. One that I’m friends with and one who I used to be friends with. My friend comes up to me as I’m walking up the stairs and we exchange awkward small talk, she’s got the "I’m caught being a phony" look all over her face and I’m just like "uh, huh, whatever" (see petty girl shit, even in my dreams). She asks me what I’m doing there and I reply that I’m about to take a sewing workshop class. I say see ya later and continue to walk upstairs. I walk through the room pass the sewing machines to join the rest of the class waiting for the instructor. They are all on the balcony, which spans the width of the building and is pretty deep. There are 2 levels to the balcony, a lower ground level seating about 10 people and a swing above, that seats another 10. The swing is set up amusement style, there is a very wide/glittery/candy apple red/vinyl bar that sits in your lap. No wind-so it’s not swinging at the moment. I take a seat on the swing and listen to the conversations below. After a minute or two, I turn around to view the back of the room. Starting at the top of the steps, is a huge swell of water. Kinda like when Indiana Jones opens a hatch he shouldn’t have and has to run or swim for his life. Seeing this tidal wave of water headed our way, I scream to the others to brace for impact. I squeeze my eyes shut and wrap my arms around the abnormally wide/vinyl bar. I squeeze my eyes tighter and tighter as I hear the blood-curdling screams from the others who can’t hold on and are plunging to their death over the balcony. The waves of water keep coming and my arms are starting to slip. I dig my nails in and puncture the vinyl, I grab onto the stuffing and then onto the interior metal bar... Still refusing to open my eyes.

I wake up in a hospital in Delaware. Bruised and swollen, the doctors tell me that I am the only survivor. My sister picks me up and we drive back to the building. It’s early morning as I walk up the stairs to the 2nd level. The room is barren from everything being washed up and out, over the balcony. The light is blinding and almost all white. I’m in shock, quiet, and numb. I kneel down and put my ear to the ground. I’m listening for water... next time I’ll be better prepared.
