Immortalize your love in plastic

Bobbleheads.com.... I visited the site round Christmas. I joked with Sweet Lips that he was his own walking/talking bobblehead (due to the proportion of his head to his body) and googled to see if there was a place that would make a custom one of him. I easily stumbled upon this site, but then kinda dismissed it due to the price. Plus, who knows how accurate they get to your likeness. Well... now I have a personal example! One of my sister's besties posted this on facebook and I immediately asked for details. Turns out Stacie ordered the bobblehead of her and her honey through bobbleheads.com. Look at the likeness... pretty darn close! Love it (!) and it was a Vday gift. How super sweet of her ('specially since this token of affection will set you back $160 bones... but how can you put a price on love). Great idea for cake toppers. Many body ops to choose from (not crazy about see saws but works well here).

Saturday Shopping Shoes

"Practical" is pretty low on my list of priorities in selecting shoes. Number 1 usually is "height". I want a shoe to add a couple inches to my petite stature. Number 2 usually is "lots of character". Unfortunately, those priorities usually don't resemble anything near comfortable. Lazy day strolls or running errands, demand an easy to wear shoe. The following are a couple affordable, (because you want to save your $ for the killers) comfortable options that still have some sass.

Rolling in the Deep

"There's a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bringing me out the dark
Finally, I can see you crystal clear.
Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your ship there.
See how I leave, with every piece of you
Don't underestimate the things that I will do."

I've been listening to 21 over and over on KCRW, but it's now available for purchase and it is every bit as good as her first album... there goes my lunch money.

Grow, dammit!

It's sometimes difficult to get accept words of encouragement from people that are not designers or artists... because frankly, I don't believe they understand my struggles. And just when I was looking for some... I found it via swiss miss, thank you!

Also here. I'm not a young/new designer, but I think we all (from time2time) need to be reminded of the essentials:
10 Lessons for young designers
Wieden+Kennedy’s Executive Creative Director, John C Jay
1: Be authentic. The most powerful asset you have is your individuality, what makes you unique. It’s time to stop listening to others on what you should do.
2: Work harder than anyone else and you will always benefit from the effort.
3: Get off the computer and connect with real people and culture. Life is visceral.
4: Constantly improve your craft. Make things with your hands. Innovation in thinking is not enough.
5: Travel as much as you can. It is a humbling and inspiring experience to learn just how much you don’t know.
6: Being original is still king, especially in this tech-driven, group-grope world.
7: Try not to work for stupid people or you’ll soon become one of them.
8: Instinct and intuition are all-powerful. Learn to trust them.
9: The Golden Rule actually works. Do good.
10: If all else fails, No. 2 is the greatest competitive advantage of any career.

So what... we're pigs.

My sisters and I met for lunch yesterday. In the mood for sushi, we started at Sticky Rice in Fells Point. Several rolls and a sakemosa later....  still hungry, so we headed to B.O.P. for a slice. And since it was an all-out kinda day... we hopped over to Pitango Gelato to satisfy our sweet tooth. Yes, sounds a bit excessive, but I regret not one single calorie!
Sakemosas at Sticky Rice (they were actually really weak, I suggest skipping them)

Sticky Balls at Sticky Rice (Hooray for Sticky Balls... they were deelish! :)

B.O.P. Slice with Mushroom, Pepperoni & Ricotta (A Classic!)
Pistachio and Orange Chocolate Noir from Pitango Gelato (the Chocolate Noir was actually sorbet, but the creamiest and dreamiest sorbet imaginable)
I'm starting to yelp... read more here if you'd like.

My alter ego 'tude for Tuesday

A flask for all of your(my) multiple personalities

In these troubled times, one can not afford to indulge in a "night out" to settle for weak drinks... no. No. No! I suggest purchasing a flask to ease the pain of overpriced drinks and just ease the pain in general. With such a variety you're sure to find one to match your outfit or suit your mood. Sweet Lips gifted me with a flask for Christmas with the engraving, "Don't touch my flask" (to match my "Don't touch my mug"). If karma does exist, someone is bound to snag it from me.

Who needs chocolate when there's cheese and oysters?

My heart(y) day was spent with faves... Lil Miss Honsauce and Poo hosted a Vday dinner party.
Good friends, great food, wine flowin', the ideal elements for an awesome evening.

Our napkins were wrapped with love-filled quotes. Mine read:
"At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet" Plato

So true.

A lil sad how something so major can be summed up in a simple anatomical diagram.
Note: the cycle can also be entered through "sleepovers"(not that I endorse this)

Happy Heart-Shaped Day!

Go spread some sugar.

a hearty Happy Hour

It's Friday, have a cocktail!
I first became enamoured with these cocktails at Gertrudes at the BMA (Baltimore Museum of Art). They are a delightful addition to your Sunday Funday... when mimosas just won't cut it.

Give'it away, Give'it away, Give'it away now...

What would your essentials look like?

Would they look as elegant as these? I doubt mine would... but it'd be and interesting assignment.

Audrey Kawasaki

I came across this artist a while back and really dug her Art Nouveau slash erotic fairy/alien style. I forwarded her site to May and then kinda forgot about her work for a bit... that is until I received a birthday print in the mail from May, who remembered how much I liked her! Too awesome for words! The print below is the one she sent me... how completely perfect.

When I grow up...

Someday... I will have a swank barcart in my swank home, stockfull of swank liquors and rare aperitifs. A spirit to fullfill every possible spirit. A liquor to fancy any possible fancy guest that might drop by on a whim.

Aren't they lovely?

Daydreaming about showing some skin...

A simple thanks would suffice.

PhotobucketEver think you deserve a simple "thank you" card for all the hard work and effort you put into shaping-up your ex–who is now using those skills to impress his new girlfriend? I do. It wouldn't hurt for her to drop a lil card in the mail and say "thank you". I mean I saved her lots of time and did all the elbow work to get him all shined-up. The problem with all this work is that by the time you're done... you're done AND someone else reaps all the benefits. All the gems of wisdom, recipe shortcuts, wardrobe styling, interior advice, social skills, manners, improvements to their music taste and food palette. I think I have several cards that should be coming my way.

Although... I know I probably owe a couple "thank you" cards myself (not saying it would even out or anything), but there are a handful of "men" out there that have shown me a thing or two. Hidden gems in the city, savory recipes that impress, lil known musicians that make you feel all tingly inside–damn skippy I'm "stealing" those AND since it's not polite to speak of your ex when you're with someone new... They are just going to think that I'm a plethora of good ideas :) This is the benefit to exploring your options!

Kanye's Blame Game (the explicit version-is there any other?) explores this notion. At the end of the song you hear a dialogue Chris Rock has with his new chic. Apparently, she's picked up some new tricks and he is quite impressed. It's completely vulgar and hilarious and an ongoing text joke between Woody and I. Instead of being bitter or jealous of his chic's ex, he is appreciative and even offers to thank him... "You know what, I got to thank Yeezy. And when I see that nigga I'ma thank him. I'ma buy the album, I'ma download that motherf*cker. I'ma shoot a bootlegger, that's how good I feel about this nigga." Kanye's new cd (My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy) BTW is full of non-stop bangers!
